Tools to Address Barriers to Registered Apprenticeship
About
For local programs that don’t yet have established RA partnerships, creating a formal pipeline can require new skills, initiatives, and community connections. This page includes tools to address some of the most common programmatic barriers to RA partnerships.
Who can help me expand my search for RAs in my area?
If your online research and discussions with employers and the local workforce development community have not helped you identify an RA program that is a good fit for partnership, try searching on the Apprenticeship Finder, or contacting organizations that have specific local, regional, or industry apprenticeship knowledge:

How do I find RAs in my rural area?
Maybe you’ve already read through the tip sheet on Rural YouthBuild Programs and Registered Apprenticeships, but you still have not found the right RA sponsor for partnership. Check out this Rural Apprenticeship and Pipeline Programs map:
While not comprehensive, the map can help you identify RAs in rural communities. If you do not see anything promising, reach out to your FPO and coach. They have access to resources to assist you in locating RAs.
Are there immediate benefits for local employers who start a new RA program?
We know that RA is a great long-term investment for employers, YouthBuild graduates, and communities, but some businesses, schools, and organizations will be more interested in short-term wins. Talk to local employers about the tax credits in many states and territories for organizations and businesses that sponsor apprentices:
How do I create my own apprenticeship program?
If there are limited options in your area, or you think that your YouthBuild program excels in the 5 key elements of RA, it is possible to create and register a new apprenticeship program. You wouldn’t be the first; multiple YouthBuild programs have successfully registered or are actively working towards national registration as apprenticeship sponsors in their industry of choice.
