Annual 988 Day: National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline Awareness
About
Every September 8th, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) invites the workforce to get involved with 988 Day, a day of community events and activities to promote awareness of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. 9-8-8 is a 3-digit number that routes calls and texts from across the U.S. to trained counselors at local crisis centers.
What is 988 Day?
Every year, this growing tradition raises awareness of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline and emphasizes the importance of mental health and suicide prevention.
The 2026 theme is, "988 Reasons: Your reason is reason enough," reminding us that you don't have to be in crisis to reach out to 988. Whatever you're facing, big or small, your reason for seeking support is reason enough to call/text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org.
988 Day highlights how communities, organizations, and people supporting mental health are creating positive buzz around 988 in their own fun and creative ways to raise awareness across the United States.
