Best Practices for Policies and Procedures
About
Review your program's policies and procedures regularly. As your program makes adjustments based on the changing needs/reality of your organization, participants, and partners, it is essential to revisit and update your program's policies and procedures to align with the current program protocol.
- When possible, include organizational staff, program participants, and alumni in writing policies and procedures. Their personal and direct insight can be invaluable when determining what policies and procedures are necessary to strengthen your YouthBuild program.
- All staff and participants should be trained in the organization’s policies and procedures. As the policies and procedures are updated, impacted staff, participants, and partners should be advised and trained on the changes. Trainings on policy and procedure changes should be documented to show that stakeholders are updated on current policies and procedures for the program.
- Use existing YouthBuild templates for compliant policy and procedures manuals and customize them to your program's needs: YouthBuild Policies and Procedures Guide
- Federal Project Officers (FPOs) review programmatic policies and procedures during monitoring. Review the DOL/ETA Core Monitoring Guide and YouthBuild Supplement to understand what FPOs are looking for in compliant policies and procedures.
